| Burial (Art. R. 363-26 Code des Communes) Except for cases mentioned in art R 36327, the corpse is put in a 22mm thick coffin with water-tight out fit made in biodegradable material approved the ministry of health. However a 18mm thick coffin, with water-tight out if is authorized if the transport does not exceed 2 hours, or up to 4hours if the corpse has received hygienic treatment or if it is a cremation. If there is a pace-maker it must be taken off. Delay for burial (Article R 361-13) Bu rial or déposit in removal vault will be made: * If the decease happens in France, 24 hours or 6 days after the decease. * If the decease happens overseas, 6 days after the corpse. Sundays and bank holidays are not included in the delay. Derogation to specified delays may be obtained from the Prefect of the district burial place. Cremation A coffin is obligatory for cremation as well as a casket provided with an identification plate. Outer and inner-fittings and linings for cremation coffins must exclusively be composed with flammable material exclusively. Coffins can also be made in material agreed by the health ministry, agreement renewable every 5 years. For all cremations the "pink form" must be delivered by the doctor. If the dead had a pace-maker a medical certificate must attest that it has been taken before putting the corpse in the coffin. Delay for cremation All funeral undertakers organize cremations. Cremation can be made at least 24 hours or 6 days after the death (sundays and boxing days are not taken into account in the delay). Aderogation may be obtained by the coroner of the district of the burial or cremation. Air and water-tight coffin (Art. R. 363-27 Code des Communes) The corpse is put in a metal air and water-tight coffin equipped with gas-filter, for filling conditions statated in article R 363-28 in following cases. * If the person at the moment of his death was strucked down with contagious disease, as stated by the health ministry. * If the corpse is kept at home or in a worship building, or in a removal vault, for a delay exceeding 6 days. In case of air-transport in all cases ordained by the lawyer. Sanitary state Hygienic treatment must be given in following cases: * Transport without coffin, made between 24 hours and 48 hours delay after death to familys home or to a private funeral home. * For transport without coffin at more than 600 Kms far. * For decease by small pox, cholera, or orthopoxvirose, the corpse will be wrapped in a proper winding sheet. * An air and water-tight metal coffin equiped with gas-filter will be provided. * No hygienic treatment can be given for decease by sida, creutzfeld-jakob, rage, viral hepatitis, the corpse will be wrapped in a proper winding sheet. * In case of death happening at home, in a hospital or any medical institution, the corpse must be put in an usual coffin before being taken out , it will not be possible to give hygienic treatment. |
